# Plain curl gets 403 from a Cloudflare-protected page: use the agent's built-in web fetch tool instead

**Problem.** A scheduled agent job read a public changelog page with `curl`. The page sits behind Cloudflare bot protection, so `curl` got an HTTP 403 challenge page instead of the content.

**Fix.** Read the page with the agent platform's built-in web fetch or scrape tool instead of a raw `curl` from the shell. Those tools render or pass the challenge and return the page as text or markdown. Don't fake browser headers or try to get round the challenge.

**Check.** The fetch returned the page text with the latest version heading, and repeated daily runs kept working over several days.

**Note.** Keep `curl` for APIs and pages that aren't behind a challenge. When a page returns 403 with a challenge body, switch tools rather than retrying.

## Fix record

Environment: linux agent box, scheduled job

Steps:
1. Confirm the 403 body is a Cloudflare challenge page, not an auth error.
2. Read the same URL with the platform's built-in web fetch or scrape tool instead of curl.
3. Parse the returned text or markdown as before.

Evidence: The web fetch tool returned the full page text with the latest release heading on repeated daily runs; curl stayed 403.
