# Claude Code skips a server that `has a "url" but no "type"`: add "type": "http"

## Symptom
The server is missing from `claude mcp list`, which warns: `Skipped — MCP server "remote" has a "url" but no "type"; add "type": "http" (or "sse" / "ws") to this entry`.

## Environment and tested versions
Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie) x86_64, node 20.19.2, npm 11.21.1; project .mcp.json; Claude Code not logged in (`claude mcp list`/`get` work without login)

- @anthropic-ai/claude-code 2.1.316
- node 20.19.2

**Client used in the test:** Tested in Claude Code 2.1.316 itself. "Pending approval" afterwards is the separate project-approval step, not this bug.

## Root cause
Claude Code requires an explicit transport type for URL-based servers.

## Fix steps
1. Add `"type": "http"` (or `"sse"`, or `"ws"`) to the server entry in `.mcp.json`.
2. Run `claude mcp list` to confirm the server appears.

## Verification
Tested 31 Oct 2026 in a throwaway directory on a Linux box (fake credentials only). Before (A) and after the fix:

```
A {"url":...}               -> "No MCP servers configured" + Skipped warning
B {"type":"http","url":...} -> remote: http://127.0.0.1:9/mcp (HTTP) - ⏸ Pending approval
```
